Volunteer / Get Involved

FAMSAC is a community service, operated by local volunteers and supported entirely within the community. FAMSAC is always in need of volunteers, with opportunities such as:

  • Collecting food from grocery store collection points
  • Sorting food
  • Packing hampers
  • Monitoring incoming calls
  • Intake and assessment processes for new participants
  • Assisting clients at the food cupboard
  • Delivering hampers to those who are unable to collect theirs
  • Organizing food drives
  • Helping with fundraising

If you are interested in volunteering for this important cause, you can fill out our online form, e-mail us or call 613-820-5428 and leave your name and telephone number. Someone will get back to you.

    Why are Food Banks Important?

According to Feed Ontario, almost 800,000 Ontarians turned to a food bank for assistance in 2023, an increase of almost 38% over 2022.
The 2023 Hunger Report notes that part of this increase is driven by the rising cost of living, but several longstanding income insecurity issues contribute to the continued rise in cost of living. These include precarious employment, inaccessible employment supports, inadequate disability supports and a lack of investment in social housing. Most of those who access food banks have incomes that are too low to cover even the most basic needs.
